Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP or GP) Contact Lenses
mine.Soft contact lenses are most common, but there is another lesser-known category of contact lens materials: gas permeable (GP) contact lenses, also known as RGPs, rigid gas permeable, or oxygen permeable lenses.
GP contact lenses are rigid, but they shouldn't be confused with old-style "hard" contact lenses, which are now obsolete. Hard contact lenses were made of a material known as PMMA. Before 1971, when soft contact lenses were introduced, just about all contact lenses were made from PMMA.
The problem with PMMA lenses is that they are difficult to get used to and somewhat uncomfortable to wear. Also, PMMA does not allow oxygen to pass through it, and healthy eyes need plenty of oxygen.
What Makes GPs Different?
GP lenses were first introduced in the late 1970s; they are actually a newer technology than soft lenses. Most GPs incorporate silicone, which makes them more flexible than PMMA. And silicone is oxygen permeable, so oxygen can pass through GP lenses, resulting in greater comfort and better eye health. In fact, GPs transmit more oxygen to the eye than do traditional soft contact lenses (although some silicone hydrogel soft lenses are comparable to GPs in oxygen transmission).
GPs can also provide better vision, durability, and deposit resistance than soft contact lenses. They can be easier to clean, and since they're long-lasting, they can be less expensive in the long term than soft lenses.
nak tambah. Ku dah guna RGP(dlm artikel GP.tp kat kotak contact lens RGP. mane2 lah. same je maksudnya.) ni beberapa tahun. dah due rasanya. JAp. cek kalendar. haah. 2 taun. Last appointment dis 2007. ohoh. dh lame tak cek mata. camne leh terpakai RGP ni? Tersebutlah kisah. Nak wat contact lens(CL) baru. Selama ni guna soft CL brand Focus. Special Case sbb astig n silau tinggi. Makin lame, astig n silau makin tinggi. So, kakak Azarina promote guna RGP. sbb, katanya, RGP ni leh maintain power. Pastu cam bg mata sndiri btulkan astig n silau. hah? cmne tu? g confirmkan sendirik ngan optometrist. (betulkan kalau fakta ni salah) RGP ni semi hard contact lens. maknanya, still boleh diterima mataku. Harganya, dlm plus minus RM500. permanent sepasang ni selama 5 tahun. mataku berharga Rm 250 sebelah! Kalau ilang, nangis!!! Oklah kan. daripada soft CL brand Focus. Focus, 6 bulan, RM 280 dah. sebab sekotak yang leh dapat 3 pasang RM 140. Power kiri n kanan lain. Maka kena lah beli dua kotak.
Sebab RGP ni special case sikit. CL tu btul2 ikut saiz anak mata kita. maksud ku, dianya kelonjongan anak mata. Pstu tu tempah saiz. 2 minggu la jugak baru dapat. Cara nak pakai sama ngn soft CL. Tapi cara nak kuarkan dari mata tu lain sikit. Maka akan ada appointment ngn optometrist secara berkala. Utk check kesesuaian ngan mata kita. Check ade calar2 kt CL tu ke tak. Mula2 seminggu. pastu seminggu lagi. pastu 2 minggu. pastu sebulan... pastu setahun. Pastu ku dah tak g dah. ahahah. kakak, nanti saya lawat ya.
Adala keburukan sikit. Kalau soft CL, bila kena habuk sikit kat mata, cam boleh diterima lg. tapi klu RGP ni, sakit die lebih sikitlah. Kenapa ek? Urm. susah nak jawab. Cuba tanya optometrist. nanti kang terbagi fakta salah, ajaran sesat lak kang. Beli eye drop yang khas untuk RGP ni. Then drop drop dlm mata. then ok dah. Pastu, kena beware lebih kalau bersukan. Nanti kena mata ke. Takle lasak2 sangat. Well, I pun ayu kan. =P
Tapi... yang bestnya, orang xtau kita pakai CL!!! ahahah. Sume pun mcm, wani pakai speks? Haah. tp slalu pakai CL. sbb diameter RGP lg kcik dr soft CL kan. Pastu leh pkai lg lama. sbb lg kecik n then cam lg byk O2 msuk dlm mata.
Ok. itu je rasanya. Kalau nak tau lagi, silalah GOOGLE. atau pun, klik ni. RGP. =P ataupun pergi ke Optometri terdekat n bertanyalah sebanyak yang mungkin.
